'Wednesday Quake Caused by Pacific Plate Shift'

The Japan Meteorological Agency says a shifting tectonic plate caused an earthquake that hit an area close to North Korea’s northeastern border with China and Russia on Wednesday morning.

The Japanese agency said the Pacific Plate, which forms the foundation for Japan and parts of the Pacific, slid under the Eurasian Plate, causing the magnitude six-point-seven quake.

A two-magnitude earthquake in Hokkaido and Aomori Prefecture in Japan was detected, but no damage has been reported.
