North Korean Vice Foreign Minister Goong Seok-woong met with top Russian government officials in Moscow on Thursday to discuss the resumption of the stalled six-way nuclear talks.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokesman Andrei Nesterenko said Friday that Goong met with deputy foreign ministers Alexei Borodavkin and Andrey Denisov to discuss Korean Peninsula affairs and ways to reopen the six-nation talks on resolving Pyongyang’s nuclear standoff.

Nesterenko said the two sides also held extensive discussions on politics, trade, economy, culture and humanitarian cooperation and sought ways to expand bilateral relations and exchanges.

Last Saturday, the North’s Korean Central News Agency announced that a North Korean delegation led by Goong had departed from Pyongyang for a visit to Russia. The report did not elaborate on the purpose of the trip.
