RFA: Aid to NK Drops in the Wake of Haiti, Chile Quakes

Radio Free Asia says food assistance to North Korea is dropping sharply as provisions of international humanitarian aid are being directed to quake-ravaged Haiti and Chile.

The report said Friday that with assistance leaning toward the two quake-stricken countries, international interest in the North has dropped.

The report said eight million U.S. dollars in U.N. emergency relief funds that has been allocated for the North for the first half of this year is currently the only assistance planned for the communist state.

The report said that no country has provided aid to the North so far this year, but that Germany would become the first country to do so if it carries out its plan to ship 540-thousand dollars worth of food to the impoverished state this month.
