Mexican Tycoon Becomes World’s Richest

Mexican telecom tycoon Carlos Slim Helú has become the richest person in the world, dethroning Microsoft's former chairman Bill Gates.

Slim finished in first place on Forbes’ list of the world’s richest, with his amassed fortune having swelled to an estimated 53-point-five billion U.S. dollars.

The magazine added 218 members to its list of billionaires, bringing the total number of billionaires to one-thousand-eleven.

Gates came in second and investing wiz Warren Buffett was named the world’s third richest.

Former Samsung Group Chairman Lee Kun-hee ranked 100th.
