U.S. officials in charge of administering economic sanctions on countries with nuclear weapons programs visited South Korea on Wednesday to discuss the issue of economic sanctions on Iran and North Korea.
Daniel Glaser, the Treasury Department's Deputy Assistant Secretary, and Steven Mull, aide to the Undersecretary of State for Political Affairs, visited the Foreign Ministry and the Strategy and Finance Ministry to explain the current status of nuclear development in and economic sanctions on Iran and North Korea.
A senior South Korean government official said the two U.S. officials discussed working-level measures for the international community to step up economic sanctions against Iran, which they say is accelerating its nuclear development.
Glaser said that the main goal of his delegation’s visit was to ask Seoul for its cooperation to effectively pressure Iran in regards to nuclear development.
The U.S. delegation also said that South Korea-U.S. cooperation regarding sanctions on North Korea was proceeding well and that additional sanctions on the North were not discussed.
