Russia has expressed discontent with South Korea’s decision to issue a travel advisory for all parts of Russia in the wake of recent attacks on South Koreans.
In a statement released Friday, the Russian Foreign Ministry said Seoul’s move was not justified, citing that investigations are under way for the attacks against South Koreans and that Moscow is seeking to arrest and sternly penalize those responsible for the attacks.
In response, a Foreign Ministry official in Seoul said Saturday that the government’s tentative issuance of the travel advisory was an inevitable measure aimed at securing the safety of South Koreans in a region where multiple Korean students have fallen victim to violent crimes.
Later in the day, the South Korean Foreign Ministry said it has not received any official response from the Russian government regarding Seoul's issuance of a travel advisory.
Earlier on Friday, the government issued a temporary travel advisory for Koreans traveling to Russia in the wake of two recent attacks on South Korean students in the country. The travel advisory will remain in place until May 31st.
