North Korea has reportedly allowed consular access to a detained American.

U.S. State Department spokesman Philip Crowley says the U.S. can confirm that on March 14th the North granted the Swedish embassy, Washington’s protecting power in the communist state, consular access to a detained U.S. citizen.

The North's official Korean Central News Agency said on January 25th that an American who illegally entered the country via the North-China border had been detained.

Last year, the communist state released two American journalists following a visit to Pyongyang by former President Bill Clinton to secure their release. A Korean-American human rights activist, Robert Park, illegally entered the North in late December but was released last month.
