US Urges NK to Follow Words With Action

The U.S. State Department says that actions speak the loudest in response to a remark by North Korean Ambassador to London Ja Song-nam that the North could return to the six-party nuclear talks before June.

In a daily news briefing, the State Department's acting deputy spokesman Gordon Duguid said a positive sign would be coming back to the six-way talks and not making statements about them. He said there have been several contacts or meetings with North Korean officials on the six-way framework and they have not reengaged up to this point.

The spokesman said the ambassador's statement, on the face of it, is positive, but that it is the action that follows which will bear fruit.

He said if North Korea does wish to reengage, it can make that known to China, the chair of the six-party talks.
