Somali Pirates Threaten to Blow Up Tanker

Somali pirates who hijacked a Korean supertanker in the Indian Ocean earlier this month say the tanker and crew are safe but if the pirates are attacked, the tanker will be blown up.

A pirate commander made the threat Wednesday in a message sent from the hijackers’ headquarters in Hobyo, Somalia, for the release of the “Samho Dream.”

He also demanded a 20-million-dollar ransom for the release of the crew and the ship.

The Samho Dream was carrying five Koreans and 19 Filipino sailors and two million barrels of oil when it was hijacked on April fourth.
