Clinton Urges N.Korea to Avoid Provocative Actions

U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton says North Korea should not engage in provocative actions and should return to the six-party denuclearization talks.

Clinton, attending a NATO ministerial meeting in Estonia, also said that she hopes there is no talk of war and that there will be no action or miscalculation that could provoke a response that might lead to conflict.

She added that the way to resolve differences among not only the North and South Koreans but among other concerned parties, including the U.S., is to return to the six-party talks as soon as possible.

The remarks come amid South Korean officials’ hints about the North’s possible involvement in the sinking of South Korea’s “Cheonan” naval ship near the inter-Korean maritime border in the Yellow Sea late last month. North Korea also started this week the seizing of South Korean assets in North Korea.
