Efforts to develop the Tumen River area into a logistics hub of Northeast Asia will likely be bolstered when an expressway is completed in October. The Tumen stretches across China, Russia and North Korea.

Chinese local media outlets reported that an expressway connecting Changchun, a traffic hub in China's northeast region, with Hunchun, the gateway to North Korea in China’s Jilin Province, will open on October first.

The reports said the completion of the expressway will further accelerate the project to develop the Tumen region. China plans to complete related construction works by 2020.

China will also launch the construction of a high-speed railroad linking Jilin, Tumen City and Hunchun, with a target completion date of 2015.

When the railroad is completed, China is expected to more actively develop rich underground resources in its three northeast provinces.
