Jones said that the president of the United States and the people of the United States wish to extend their deepest condolences for the tragedy and the loss of lives, and to the heroic members of the South Korean Navy who gave their lives for the defense of freedom and for the people of South Korea.

He also said that the U.S. will be strong and resolute and will never forget their sacrifice.

As for Washington’s stance on the Cheonan’s sinking, Jones said he was not in a position to discuss the incident, citing ongoing investigations.
