S.Korean Unit in Lebanon Treats 20,000th Patient

The South Korean unit participating in U.N. peacekeeping efforts in Lebanon has been found to have treated more than 20-thousand patients in the Western Asian country.

The Joint Chiefs of Staff announced Monday that the Dongmyeong Unit stationed in the southern city of Tyre treated its 20-thousandth patient last Friday, or two years and nine months since the unit first began providing medical services. The unit presented a bouquet and gift to the patient.

Sixty-five percent of the patients treated by the unit suffered from high blood pressure and diabetes.

The unit’s medical corps --- including three army doctors, two nurse officers and three medics --- travels to five villages each day to provide medical services. The unit also provides veterinary services as well as medical equipment for low-income people with disabilities.
