'US Has 5,113 Nuke Warheads'

The U.S. said Monday that it has five-thousand-113 nuclear warheads in its stockpile.

The Associated Press cited a top Department of Defense official as adding that the current number of warheads is 75 percent less than in 1989 and 84 percent less than in 1967.

The disclosure came immediately after U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said during the Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty (NPT) Review Conference that Washington "will make public the number of nuclear weapons in its stockpile and the number of weapons it has dismantled since 1991."

The move is considered to be part of the Barack Obama administration’s vow to be more transparent in regards to its nuclear weapons.

Clinton also said that violators of the NPT must know that they will pay a high price if they break the rules.
