South Korea and the United States have agreed to continue to cooperate and devise security measures in line with the results of a probe into the “Cheonan” naval incident.

The South Korean Defense Ministry announced that the two countries reached the agreement during their 25th Security Policy Initiative meeting held Thursday in Seoul. Officials from the two sides exchanged opinions on the sinking of the Cheonan and on developments in the probe into the matter.

The two sides also assessed progress in a plan for the U.S. to transfer wartime operational command to Seoul by April 2012. Officials reportedly discussed how they will carry out the transfer plan in the event North Korea is found to be responsible for the sinking of the South Korean naval ship.

South Korea was represented in the meeting by Deputy Defense Minister for Policy Chang Kwang-il, while the U.S. was represented by Michael Schiffer, the Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for East Asia.
