Japan Media Blast China for NK Aid

A number of Japanese media outlets are criticizing China for providing aid to North Korea without doing more to stop the North’s nuclear development.

On North Korean leader Kim Jong-il's five-day visit to China, the Nihon Keizai Shimbun daily criticized China for giving aid to the North Korea to lure it back to the dialogue table.

It also said that if China expands its levels of economic aid for North Korea, the North's denuclearization will be impossible, noting that Beijing accounts for 70 percent of Pyongyang's trade.

The Asahi Shimbun said Kim Jong-il appears to have garnered considerable economic gains from China during the visit. The paper called on Chinese President Hu Jintao to more sternly urge North Korea to abandon its nuclear program.
