Lee Vows to Bolster S.Korea-UNICEF Cooperation

President Lee Myung-bak met with Executive Director of the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) Anthony Lake on Tuesday and exchanged opinions on how to increase bilateral cooperation.

They also discussed the Korean government’s policies for cooperation in development.

Lee said that South Korea intends to continue to contribute as a responsible member of the global community, as South Koreans have, in the past, received much aid from international partners.

Lake and Lee discussed South Korea’s decision to consider including developmental issues on the agenda at the G20 Seoul Summit in November this year.

Lake expressed hope that the G20 Summit will serve as an opportunity for cooperation between UNICEF and South Korea to positively impact humanitarian aid efforts.

Last year, South Korea was the 19th largest government donor to the organization.
