Japan Unveils Textbooks Describing Dokdo as Its Territory

Japanese elementary textbooks that detail Japan’s claims to South Korea’s Dokdo islets in the East Sea have been unveiled to the Japanese public.

Japan’s Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology disclosed on Wednesday 148 new textbooks for grades one to six. Included in the 148 was a social studies textbook for fifth graders in which Japan’s territorial claims to the islets are outlined.

The ministry also disclosed over five-thousand government documents regarding the Korean islets --- one of which shows that the Japanese government ordered all textbooks to have territorial lines that include Dokdo as part of Japan.

The books will be introduced to schools in July.
