Israel Blasts NK for Weapons Exports

Israel says North Korea’s exports of weapons to Syria are compromising the stability of Southeast Asia and the Middle East.

Israeli Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman made the comment during a Tuesday meeting with Japanese Prime Minister Yukio Hatoyama in Japan.

According to Israel’s Foreign Ministry, Lieberman said that cooperation between North Korea and Syria is focused on boosting military, not economic, cooperation.

He cited U.S. intelligence reports that showed a Middle Eastern country was the destination of an Eastern European plane transporting weapons made in North Korea. The plane he was referring to was detained in Thailand late last year.

On May second, Israeli President Shimon Peres called North Korea a weapons duty-free shop for Lebanon and Syria.
