US Senators Seek Resolution on Cheonan Incident

A group of U.S. senators is seeking to pass a bipartisan resolution on the sinking of the “Cheonan” ship.

The resolution was drawn up by Independent Senator Joseph Lieberman and was signed by Democratic Senator John Kerry and Republican Senator John McCain, among others.

Lieberman’s office said the resolution is expected to be adopted next week before the results of a probe into the ship’s sinking are announced.

Although it does not specifically mention North Korea, the resolution calls for the effective implementation of U.S. sanctions against the North.

Meanwhile, deputy defense chiefs of South Korea and the U.S. will meet in Washington on Friday to discuss ways to cooperate on the Cheonan case.
