Clinton Begins China Visit

U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton arrived in Shanghai on Friday night as part of an official visit to China. The visit comes amid multilateral diplomatic discussions on how to respond to North Korea's attack on the South Korean Cheonan naval warship.

Clinton will attend a two-day strategic dialogue between China and the U.S. starting Monday after making a stop at the Shanghai World Expo.

The two sides are expected to discuss the southern European debt crisis, the uncertainty of the global economy, as well as the Cheonan incident.

In particular, Clinton is expected to urge Beijing’s leaders to take a “responsible role” on the Cheonan issue.

While in Tokyo on Friday, Clinton said after a meeting with Japanese Foreign Minister Katsuya Okada that an international response must be taken on the North’s aggression regarding the Cheonan naval corvette.
