The United States has announced that it plans to review all its policies on North Korea.
White House spokesman Robert Gibbs said Tuesday that in response to the pattern of North Korean provocation and defiance of international law, President Barack Obama has directed U.S. government agencies to review their existing authorities and policies related to North Korea.
Washington’s current policies on Pyongyang are centered on pursuing both dialogue and sanctions.
Meanwhile, U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, scheduled to visit Seoul on Wednesday, stressed that her department is continually reviewing the North’s actions to determine if the evidence supports its designation as a state sponsor of terrorism. She said if evidence warrants, the State Department will take action. The North was dropped from the terrorism blacklist in October 2008.
Meanwhile, the U.S. House of Representatives is expected to adopt a resolution on the Cheonan incident Tuesday.
