US-China Strategic Talks Enter 2nd Day

The China-U.S. Strategic and Economic Dialogue entered its second day on Tuesday in Beijing.

Officials of the two nations are reportedly discussing follow-up measures to the “Cheonan” naval incident, bilateral trade issues and Iran’s nuclear standoff.

The U.S. is reportedly urging China to join Washington in pushing for sanctions on the North for sinking the Korean naval ship, but China is reportedly sticking to a nonconfrontational stance.

On Iran’s nuclear issue, the U.S. asked for China’s cooperation in freezing the assets of key Iranian figures and organizations related to illegal weapons programs, but Beijing opposed the request.

The officials of the two nations will hold a joint news conference to unveil the results of their strategic talks later on Tuesday.
