Nat'l Geographic Web Maps Use 'East Sea' and 'Sea of Japan'

The National Geographic Society has labeled the waters between South Korea and Japan as both the “East Sea” and the “Sea of Japan” on its Web map service.

The society, which is a leading publisher of global maps, is currently using both terms on its Internet maps powered by Bing.

Previously, the National Geographic Society had labeled the waters between South Korea and Japan as the “Sea of Japan” and next to it put “East Sea” in parentheses.
