The Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), José Miguel Insulza, has condemned North Korea for sinking South Korea’s “Cheonan” naval vessel with a torpedo in late March.

Insulza confirmed in a news release Tuesday that an investigation supported by international experts has concluded that the sinking of the “Cheonan” was caused by a North Korean torpedo.

He said the sinking of the Cheonan, as described by the investigation, constitutes a clear violation of international law and a threat to world peace and security.

Insulza added that the international community cannot accept acts such as the military provocation when the validity of dialogue is still a reality.

Thirty-five independent countries in the Americas are members of the OAS.
