European Parliament Group Nixes NK Visit

A European Parliament delegation has canceled a scheduled visit to North Korea.

Delegates of the parliament’s committee on Korean affairs had planned to visit the North June 5th and South Korea June 8th, but have changed their schedule to visit the South only.

A European Parliament source says the delegation decided against going to the North after concluding that a visit could give Pyongyang the wrong signal at a time when the world is putting diplomatic pressure on the communist country over the sinking of the South Korean naval vessel Cheonan.

The parliament sends a delegation to both Koreas every year.
