NK: Cheonan an Inappropriate Topic for ARF

North Korea will reportedly refrain from addressing the sinking of South Korea’s “Cheonan” naval vessel at the ongoing ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF) in Hanoi.

A North Korean official at the forum told reporters Friday that the issue of the Cheonan is between the two Koreas and is therefore an inappropriate topic for an international convention. He said North Korea would not bring it up unless South Korea does.

He added that the Cheonan incident would be better discussed during working-level talks between the United Nations and North Korea.

Vietnam, which is chairing the meeting, will have a news conference to announce the results of the forum after the closing ceremony Friday evening. The chairman’s statement is expected to be announced on Saturday morning.
