'UN Command Says NK Sank Cheonan'

The United Nations Command stationed in South Korea has reportedly drafted an assessment that implicates North Korea in the sinking of the “Cheonan” warship and has submitted it to the U.N. Security Council.

Japan's Sankei Shimbun daily quoted a U.N. diplomat as saying that the South Korea-led international investigation into the Cheonan, which determined North Korea perpetrated the attack intentionally, was objective and reliable.

Sankei said the U.N. Command's report also called the North's action a major violation of the inter-Korean armistice agreement.

The paper projected that the U.N. Command's proposal to form a joint assessment team with North Korea during bilateral colonel-level talks on Friday is in line with its views expressed in the Cheonan report.
