A group of defense experts in the Japanese government is reportedly advising that Japan's military strategy be revamped to prepare for a possible contingency on the Korean Peninsula.

Japan’s Yomiuri Shimbun says the group will submit the advisory report to Prime Minister Naoto Kan early next week.

Yomiuri says the report also requests flexibility in interpreting the right to collective self-defense and weapons exports.

The daily says it remains to be seen whether the ruling Democratic Party of Japan will include the calls in its defense plans before the end of the year.
