Eight public schools in Los Angeles will begin teaching

taekwondo next month.

The Korean Cultural Center in Los Angeles said that a

ceremony marking the decision will be held Tuesday at an

elementary school in Koreatown with officials and students of

the eight schools invited.

The center expects more Los Angeles schools to teach the

Korean martial art as part of either curricular or

extracurricular programs, noting a steady stream of

inquiries.
