An air route between Bao Bao in Indonesia and Bali appears likely to open soon. Bau Bau is home to the Cia Cia tribe, which has adopted the Korean “hangeul” alphabet to preserve their oral-only language.

The local daily, Bisnis Indonesia, reported on Tuesday that private Indonesian airlines are actively pursuing to link Bau Bau, which aspires to be a tourist attraction, with the famous resort of Bali.

Bau Bau Mayor Amirul Tamim said three airlines have agreed with the Bau Bau government to operate the routes, which will be available before the end of the year at the latest.

Although Bau Bau has seen an increase in inbound flights with the international community hearing of the Cia Cia adopting Hangeul for their writing, there are currently no direct flights from Korea to the city.
