Wu to Visit US Wednesday

China’s top nuclear envoy Wu Dawei will visit the United States on Wednesday for consultations with U.S. officials on North Korea.

State Department spokesman Philip Crowley told reporters Tuesday in Washington that Deputy Secretary of State Jim Steinberg, Special Representative for North Korea Policy Stephen Bosworth, and top U.S. nuclear negotiator Sung Kim will meet with Wu during his stay.

Crowley said the U.S. officials will continue ongoing consultations with China as the U.S. has with other partners in the six-party process to evaluate the way forward with respect to the Korean Peninsula.

Wu’s U.S. visit follows trips he made to South Korea and Japan. Wu reportedly said that he would make a new proposal for the resumption of the six-way nuclear talks once he has visited the three nations.
