US Offers Humanitarian Aid to NK

The U.S. is offering humanitarian aid worth 750-thousand U.S. dollars to North Korea to help it cope with recent heavy rains and floods.

U.S. special envoy for North Korean human rights Robert King told the Voice of America that the U.S. government will equally divide the humanitarian aid to the Samaritan’s Purse, the Global Resources Service and the Mercy Corps for distribution to the North.

VOA said that the first 90-ton batch of rescue supplies will arrive in Pyongyang on Friday. The remaining relief goods will be delivered to the communist country next week.

King said that Washington decided to offer the aid from a humanitarian stance without any political considerations.

In 2007, the U.S. government provided the poverty-stricken country with humanitarian aid worth 100-thousand dollars for North Koreans struck by massive floods.
