Former U.S. President Jimmy Carter, who visited North Korea late last month to secure the release of an American detained there, is now visiting China.

Carter, currently in Beijing, was invited by the Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries. It's not confirmed whether he will meet with a ranking Beijing official during his stay.

Carter will move to Shanghai on Tuesday and will tour the Shanghai Expo, after which he’ll visit Guangzhou.

The former president arrived at Incheon International Airport Sunday afternoon to transfer flights to Beijing. While in Incheon, he briefly met with South Korean Vice Foreign Minister Chun Young-woo and reportedly briefed Chun on North Korea's stances on the six-party nuclear talks and denuclearization.
