A senior government official says Seoul is in the process of explaining to Iran its sanctions on the Middle Eastern nation.

The official told reporters Wednesday after announcing the sanctions that Seoul would continue to lay out the specifics for Tehran.

The official added that Seoul had comprehensively weighed all mandatory and recommended measures set forth by a United Nations Security Council resolution when making its decision on the sanctions.

The official said Seoul’s sanctions plan is similar to those of the EU and Japan.

When asked if it reflected the stances of the U.S., the official said that although Second Vice Foreign Minister Chun Young-woo has discussed them with Washington, the sanctions announced Wednesday were independent decisions.
