US: Improved Human Rights Needed for Better NK Relations

The U.S. says that the improvement of its relations with North Korea will be possible only after the human rights situation improves in the communist country.

U.S. special envoy for North Korean human rights Robert King said in a symposium on North Korea’s human rights conditions held in Washington that the U.S. offers of humanitarian aid to North Korean people hit by massive floods are not linked to political or security concerns.

He urged the U.S. and South Korea to cooperate in tackling North Korean human rights violations as well as in enhancing security on the Korean Peninsula.

Meanwhile, the U.S. State Department said Wednesday that a cargo plane delivered medical supplies worth 750-thousand U.S. dollars to Pyongyang on September second.
