'US Pacific Fleet on Alert for Possible NK Emergencies'

The commander of the U.S. Pacific Fleet says that his fleet is on alert in preparation for any emergencies related to the succession of power in North Korea.

Admiral Patrick Walsh said that now is a time of uncertainty in the North and that it is best to be prepared for any sudden developments in the situation.

He added that North Korea had taken incomprehensible actions when power was transferred from late North Korean founder Kim Il-sung to his son Kim Jong-il.

Walsh said that the U.S. Navy has been keeping a close eye on North Korea’s moves since the sinking of the South Korean naval vessel “Cheonan” in late March.

He said the U.S. must maintain the military capacity needed to deal with any kind of emergency that could develop.
