US Steps Up Efforts to Prevent Human Trafficking

The U.S. government has decided to cut assistance to North Korea, Cuba, Myanmar, Iran and Zimbabwe due to their governments’ failure to prevent human trafficking.

The White House announced the decision in a presidential determination on September tenth in accordance with the Trafficking Victims Protection Act of 2000.

Accordingly, the provision of U.S. government funds will be banned for educational and cultural programs in North Korea.

The White House said that assistance will not be provided for such programs until the countries comply with the minimum standards or make significant efforts to prevent human trafficking.
