Sakong Il, chairman of the G20 Seoul summit preparatory committee, says that a permanent G20 framework should be given serious consideration.

At a G20 preparatory international symposium held in Seoul Tuesday, Sakong said no nation can prosper when isolated and that the push for economic issues is impossible without global collaboration.

Sakong stressed that although some are skeptical about the future of the G20 summit, the G8 cannot serve as an alternative. Therefore, he stated, the G20 framework must continue.

Sakong added that for ways to make G20 a permanent organization, he welcomes French President Nicolas Sarkozy’s proposal for discussions of establishing a G20 secretariat.
