The United States has described Kim Jong-un’s promotion to be a four-star general as “the ultimate reality show.”

State Department spokesman Philip Crowley told reporters in Washington on Tuesday that the promotions and nominations made in a convention of the North’s ruling party on Tuesday were “perhaps the ultimate reality show unfolding in North Korea.”

Asked to explain what he meant by his remark, Crowley said that the situation is unfolding in real time and that the U.S. is watching the matter just as the media is.

Crowley added that it’s a bit too early to assess what the related implications are.
