South Korea, China and Japan have agreed not to hurriedly seek the resumption of the six-way nuclear talks.
President Lee Myung-bak, Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao and Japanese Prime Minister Ken Naoto reached the agreement during a trilateral summit in Vietnam on Friday, saying they will “not seek talks for the sake of talks.”
The leaders said instead they will seek talks that will lead to progress even if that means a delay in the resumption of the nuclear negotiations.
Lee said in a statement after the three-way summit that cooperation among the three countries is significant given that it affects peace and prosperity not only in Northeast Asia but in the world as a whole.
During Friday’s summit, Japan stressed the need for China to stably provide rare-earth elements. In response, China said that it will continue to supply the international community with rare-earth elements. China added that it will exert efforts to expand the sources of such elements and develop alternative resources.
