The United States has asked for China's help in preventing a North Korean provocation during the G20 summit in Seoul.

U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton made the request to top Chinese officials, hoping that Beijing would pressure Pyongyang against causing any provocations during the summit period.

Clinton conveyed the call to Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi and to State Councilor Dai Bingguo on separate occasions.

She also told China that satellite photos from late September have confirmed that new construction projects were under way near the cooling tower at the site of North Korea's Yongbyon nuclear facility.
