Japan Undecided on Books to be Returned

The Japanese daily Sankei Shimbun says that the Japanese government has yet to decide on a list of ancient Korean books that Japan seized during its colonial period that it will return to South Korea.

The paper said on Tuesday that Tokyo has decided to send a message to Seoul that the list of books to be sent back and the method they will be delivered have not been decided.

Sankei said that Tokyo presented the proposition in response to a question asked by Senator Masahisa Sato of the House of Councillors regarding the planned return of ancient Korean books.

Japanese Prime Minister Naoto Kan said in a statement in August that Tokyo will soon return ancient books and cultural assets that his country took from the Korean Peninsula during the colonial period.
