Republicans Win Control of US House

The Republican Party has taken over control of the House of Representatives in midterm elections held in the U.S. on Tuesday, putting an end to four years of Democratic Party control.

The Republican Party won majority control of the 435-member House by adding at least 58 seats to its total.

The election puts the Republicans in the driver’s seat in terms of policy-making and is expected to pose an obstacle to President Barack Obama two years after he was elected to office.

The Democratic Party, meanwhile, is expected to retain control of the Senate despite having its lead in seats cut into by the Republicans.

Thirty-seven out of 100 senators will be replaced in Tuesday’s midterm elections.

Republicans appear to have won senate seats in Kentucky, Florida, Indiana, South Carolina, Ohio, Alabama, New Hampshire and Arkansas.
