The amount of oil lost in a suspected bomb attack on a South Korean-run pipeline in Yemen is being estimated at one-thousand barrels, as most of the leaked crude has been collected.
A Foreign Ministry official in Seoul said Thursday that about ten-thousand barrels of oil were released from the pipeline in southern Yemen after Tuesday's explosion, but that nine-thousand barrels have been recovered successfully.
Following analysis of the damage, attackers are believed to have buried explosives under the pipeline.
An official from the South Korean Embassy in Yemen met with the police chief and the local military commander of Yemen’s southern province of Shabwa on Wednesday to ask for their cooperation in the investigation into the incident.
The police chief reportedly warned against hasty conclusions, saying that determinations cannot be drawn until after the investigation is completed.
The damaged pipeline is in an oil field run by the Korea National Oil Corporation.
