Gov't Warns of Heavy Traffic during G20 Summit

Written: 2010-11-11 12:30:00Updated: 2010-11-11 17:18:15

The government is urging increased use of public transportation and active observance of an alternating driving-day system in order to cut down on traffic in Seoul during the G20 summit Thursday and Friday.

Under the alternating driving-day system, automobiles with license plates ending in even numbers are asked to stay off the road on Thursday, while those with license plates ending in odd numbers are asked to do the same on Friday.

The traffic situation in Seoul is expected to be complex, as a number of roads have been blocked off for the summit and rallies will be held at Seoul Station Plaza on Thursday afternoon.

All roads near the COEX exhibition center, the venue for the summit, have been blocked off until Friday at 10 p.m.

Subway trains running on the Number Two Line will not make stops at Samseong Station, the nearest station to COEX.

City buses will either take detours around or skip stops near the summit venue.
