US Lawmaker Urges S.Korea to Make Concessions on FTA

A Republican lawmaker in the U.S. is urging South Korea to make more concessions in trade negotiations with the U.S. in order to ensure that a bilateral free trade agreement can be ratified by Congress.

Representative Peter Roskam said that additional concessions by South Korea in the beef and auto sectors will greatly assist in the congressional ratification of the trade treaty in the U.S.

Roskam is a member of a bipartisan group that is promoting the ratification of the South Korea-U.S. free trade pact in the House of Representatives.

The lawmaker is currently visiting Seoul as a member of a U.S. delegation that is seeking additional trade negotiations with South Korea. The representative has, during his visit, met with Foreign Minister Kim Sung-hwan and a number of leading South Korean lawmakers to discuss the trade pact.
