UNSC Members Discuss How to Handle NK Attack

The U.N. Security Council has begun reviewing ways to address North Korea’s artillery attack on South Korea’s Yeonpyeong Island.

British Ambassador to the U.N. Mark Grant mentioned the North’s shelling during a council meeting on Wednesday that was convened to discuss Middle Eastern affairs. Britain currently holds the rotating presidency of the Security Council.

Grant reportedly said that the Security Council is holding consultations on how to handle the incident.

U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon also expressed his “utmost concern” over the attack, which he described as “one of the gravest incidents since the end of the Korean War.”

He condemned the attack and called for the North’s immediate restraint.
