S.Korean Woman Cleared of Murder Charge in Honduras

A South Korean woman has been formally acquitted of murder charges by a Honduran court.

Twenty-seven-year-old Han Ji-soo was arrested in August 2009 and extradited to Honduras in connection with the 2008 death of a Dutch backpacker.

According to a Foreign Ministry official in Seoul, the Honduran court said in its verdict that the medical examiner’s ruling that the female backpacker's murder was not fully substantiated, while Han’s testimony was clear and credible.

The verdict confirmed last month's verbal court ruling that cleared the Korean diving instructor.

At the time of the backpacker’s death, Han was in Honduras to earn a certificate in skin scuba diving. Han had, at the time, been living in a house with the main suspect, who was the boyfriend of the backpacker.
