S.Korea Ranks 53rd in Defense Spending/GDP Ratio

A new report shows that South Korea's defense budget as a percentage of its gross domestic product (GDP) is the 50th highest out of some 170 countries surveyed.

The World Factbook compiled by the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency shows that South Korea's defense spending came to two-point-seven percent of its GDP compared with a global average of two percent.

Oman topped the list at eleven-point-four percent, followed by Qatar and Saudi Arabia at around ten percent each.

Among G20 nations, Saudi Arabia was at the top, followed by Turkey, the U.S. and Russia. South Korea ranked eighth.
